Each project here is framed around the operational or product shift it created, not just the tooling behind it.

01

The Challenge

South East Queensland has a strong community tradition of elaborate Christmas light displays, but discovery was fragmented. Families relied on scattered Facebook posts, local hearsay, and incomplete lists to figure out where to go. The opportunity was to turn that community interest into a mobile product with a central map, submissions, ratings, and route planning so the experience felt easy instead of piecemeal.

02

Our Solution

We built SEQ Christmas Lights as a cross-platform community discovery app using Flutter. Users can browse an interactive map, submit their own displays, view photos, rate locations, and save favourites. The route planning layer makes the app more than a seasonal directory by helping families turn multiple display stops into a real night-out plan. The product balances community contribution with practical navigation and planning features, which is what makes it valuable each holiday season.

03

Outcome

SEQ Christmas Lights grew into a recurring seasonal utility for the region. It reached more than 25,000 active users during the Christmas period, listed more than 1,500 displays in a season, and supported over 3,000 user-created viewing routes. That mix of engagement shows the app was not just being browsed. It was actively used to plan and navigate real outings.

Families gained a central source for display discovery instead of relying on scattered posts
Community submissions made the platform feel local and alive each season
Map and route-planning tools turned passive browsing into practical trip planning
Ratings and photos helped users choose the best displays to visit
The product created a repeat seasonal experience people could come back to every year
