The Challenge
Expense tracking is still painfully manual for freelancers, small businesses, and operators who need clean records without admin overhead. Most workflows require typing merchant names, totals, dates, and categories by hand, which makes receipt capture slow, repetitive, and easy to abandon. Invoices arriving by email create a second bottleneck: users have to download attachments, re-upload files, and then clean up the data manually. Even after capture, users still need a cleaner place to organise, review, search, and export records at scale. The opportunity was to turn scanning, inbox intake, and post-capture management into one fast, trustworthy workflow.
Our Solution
We designed and built Receipt Reader AI as a product platform, not just a scanner. The native iPhone app handles fast camera-based receipt capture and review. The email assistant lets users forward invoice emails and have PDF or image attachments processed automatically into their account. The web dashboard gives users a larger workspace to review extracted data, organise records, search history, and manage exports. Across all three surfaces, the goal was the same: turn messy receipts and invoices into structured, export-ready expense data with minimal effort. Swift gave us the performance and control needed for a premium mobile experience, while AI-assisted development with Cursor and Claude helped accelerate delivery without compromising the product quality.
Outcome
Receipt Reader AI became a genuinely useful finance utility instead of a demo-grade OCR experiment. The platform has processed more than 1 million receipts, reached 10,000+ active users, and maintained 99.2% extraction accuracy with fast sub-3-second scan processing. With the email assistant and web dashboard, it now covers capture, inbox intake, review, organisation, and export in a single workflow.
